Magnaflow muffler vs. cat-back exhaust system

None of them add performance, but merely sound. The restriction in our Gen 2s is the turbos, not the muffler or size of piping, etc. if you want cheap performance, add the 93 PRX tune for $700 and call it a day.

I have the FlowMaster Flow FX muffler replacement on my 2018. It really growls when you step on it, but sounds normal under everyday driving. It has zero drone at any speed and that is why I bought it. I left the stock resonator and tail pipes because I like the look of black tips straight out the back. It does not sound like a V8....

When I want awesome V8 sounds, I take my GT350 with the VooDoo engine for a run and it solves the inner need for speed and sound!

There is no such thing as a good sounding Gen 2 Raptor. Not for $1k not for $1m can you make a positive difference. The biggest waste of money I've ever seen is TTv6 exhaust upgrade on a Raptor. You sort of have to enjoy the increased torque and power and get over the sound. Stock exhaust is as close as it's going to get to sounding good....still a blender...but a blender that'll kick the ever livin sh&t out of most vehicles on the road. Fuzzy dice would be a more worthwhile upgrade than exhaust...at least you can say you did something stupid to get a laugh rather than looking like a fool trying to improve the sound on the TTv6 Raptor.

Not cat back, just a bolt on muffler kit. (which (in check out) is now $430 for January apparently)

I initially did just a muffler swap, recently upgraded to AWE 2fg and am super happy with it, no drone, sounds great on cold start and when you hit the throttle, I would highly recommend it

Thanks. the video confused me as it was a cat back system. That muffler kit sounds like a nice upgrade on the website but I can't trust their audio, you know they are bumping that up digitally.

I think (for a TT exhaust) this valvetronic unit sounds pretty darn good...

After spending more time than it was economically worth, I had a local shop help me A/B multiple exhaust systems on my Raptor. They thought it would be a fun exercise, so they didn’t charge me for the time. I wanted a Cat Back system but don’t believe that the tail pipe and tips need replacement. We removed the resonator and muffler. I can best describe what I notice by listing what we heard and three brands of mufflers. Borla S-type displayed a high pitch cowl that everyone in the room liked a first but within a minute all felt was abrasive. This system offered the highest pitch. At the other end of the spectrum was a 14” Magnaflow straight through performance muffler. I can post the model if anyone likes. This offered a low pitched growl, most reminiscent of a V8. Almost dead in the middle was a Flowmaster 50. We tried others, but they were all in the range of these three easily obtainable systems. In the end, I wanted the deepest growl in could find. We added resonator pipes to the end of the Cat, added the Magnaflow muffler, and welded this all together. The whole thing cost me $349 out the door. We all had a blast A/Bing all of this. The guys at the shop said that they learned a ton and, for the first time can help customers with real first hand knowledge.
I showed my setup to a buddy last night who also has a Gen2 Raptor. He said it was the most V8 sounds he’s ever heard from Raptor. He’s taking g his is on Monday morning to replicate my setup. The setup offers a deep low pitched growl with almost nothing to slow down the exhaust. It sounds especially good in sport model.

Assume you recorded them right?

I've listened to dozens or Raptor exhaust clips, hundreds if you count all cars. The biggest problem with using those to compare is they were recorded on different days, different vehicles, different weather, using different recording systems and different surroundings.

The only reasonable way to compare different mufflers is what you did.
