Gen 2 Blown Motor: Advice

I'd ask Ford for an extended warranty to a 100k miles for cheap and roll with it.

Things do go wrong, it sucks, but failed motors is not the norm.

Thanks for the advice. Heading to the dealer now to look at numbers on a new and see what they’d give me on a trade.

I’m leaning towards a different truck-either another used or a new build. But I’m not going to spend a ton to get there.

I’ll let you know what the dealer says. So far they’ve been pretty accommodating.

I am in similar situation with transmission. My current ‘18 was 72k sticker paid. 5500 miles. their first pass was to give me 66k on trade for a ‘19 they have on order. Sticker on ‘19 is 75k. I laughed and left. Same dealer I bought from and is now 40+ days in trying to fix it.
I will make another pass it, if and when they get mine running.

Jeez, you’d think they’d be more helpful with all the trouble you’ve had with a truck they sold you.

I’ll let you know what they offer.

Update: now they are telling me depending on where the problems are, they may just replace the short block.

They’ve got a blue 18 on the lot with all my options except the orange accents.

I’d ride it out and get the repair done. Right now, you’re negotiating from a position of weakness. Once the repair is complete, reassess.

True, the only thing I worry about is the ‘depreciation’ my truck with a new motor.

I guess a case can be made either way; positive or negative. But I know if I was buying a truck with a new motor and they couldn’t tell me why the motor blew in the first place, I’d be hesitant.

I second having them extend your warranty. My parents had a block replaced on an ecodiesel, everything went fine with that, but a few years later various seals and stuff that had to be replaced on the new block have been leaking and going bad. They're a few thousand dollars in repairs that I think came from having the block replaced.

Looks like I’m just getting the repair.

They are asking for 14k in addition to get an 18 they have on the lot. Which is ridiculous.

+1 to this, OP. Try to call Ford customer relations and explain what's going on. That's what I did when I had my truck for 800 miles and it needed a new longblock. They tried to offer me an extended warranty for 100k miles, but I had that factored into the deal when I was buying it. Except, on Ford's end they couldn't see the warranty (paperwork error which is sorted now) so they made a month payment since it was in the shop for about 32 days. I bought mine as a '17 CPO with 7,193 miles and at 8,100 miles it needed a new block - frustrating since I had traded in my Gen 1 due to a rear diff on it's way out along with another list of issues and it was 2 weeks out of warranty. Ford couldn't tell me why it needed a new motor, besides that another Gen 2 was in for the same issues and both motors were being replaced. On the notes once I got the truck back, it stated that there was an oil leak from the passenger side of the engine, a piston skirt was cracked and metal shavings in the oil. I absolutely love the truck, just frustrating for the time I've been out of a truck without a loaner and no real answers.
