Serious questions for those who are convinced that an Ecoboost replacement is coming

Okay, for those who are honestly convinced that an Ecoboost replacement motor is coming for the Raptor:

1. What will the replacement motor be?
2. On what model year Raptor will the replacement be available?
3. What source(s) have you convinced of this? If you have inside info, there's no need to drop names, but "I have a friend who works for <insert Ford group name here>" will suffice.
4. IF you are wrong about the replacement motor, will you admit on FRF that you were wrong, and shut up about it?

From my perspective, regarding the last question, if the replacement motor shows up in this generation of the Raptor as you predict, I am willing to add the following text to my sig line here on FRF, to immortalize your soothsaying:

"I was a fool for buying an Ecoboost Raptor. If only I had listened to <insert your user name here>, I'd have more horsepower, more torque, and most importantly, a better exhaust sound."

Is this serious? Or are you just a troll?

Ecoboost is not dead but who is to say that Ford doesn't make an ecoboost v8. If government regulation demands stop the nonsense then anything is possible.

Sadly, the current motor is here to stay, at least until 2022/Gen 3 Raptor.

No, I'm serious. Even if Ford does release an Ecoboost V8, that doesn't mean that it'll land in the Raptor. Hell, Ford had the GT500 motor available at the same time that the G1 Raptor was being made, but never put them together.

There seem to be a fair number of people who are absolutely convinced (not just hopeful, but convinced) that an upgraded/replacement motor is on the way for the Raptor. These questions are an effort to solidify what the predictions are, and when we can expect to see them.

A better question is.....

If a ecoboost v8 comes out as an option but is $10k-12K more, would you pay that?

I doubt Ford will put anything in the Raptor that isn't allowed in the SCORE rule books. No turbo/supercharged v8 in BAJA, no turbo/supercharged v8 in the Raptor. That doesn't mean rules can't change or that Ford won't offer a NA V8 but it's doubtful. You don't offer a 'cheap' engine option in a flagship vehicle and a NA 5.0 would offer less than the HO TT3.5 - JMHO

Honestly, that would push the truck out of my comfortable price range... That doesn't mean that I wouldn't want it, just that I don't see myself coughing up that much more coin.

Has there ever been an optional engine in a truck that costs that much more?....my guess if there were to be such a thing it would not cost that much....and my bet would there will not be an optional engine

My source is the guy who lead our Raptor Assault class. He raced the Raptor in the Baja for Ford and has a company that sells performance parts for the Raptor.

When asked if something bigger was coming, he said it was highly unlikely because the Gen2 is rear end limited. He said the current diff, diff locker, and u-joints are maxed out by the current motor and it will take a rear end redesign to accommodate something more powerful. Most likely that rules out anything in 2018 and probably even this generation.

That doesn't prevent Ford from stuffing the old 6.2L in there to appease the knuckle-draggers. But I cannot imagine a heavier, slower, less powerful, and less efficient V8 selling very well.

There was also a rumor on here a few weeks ago about the Raptor dropping the leaf springs and going to an independent rear suspension. If that's true, that could be part of a looming engine upgrade. But I suspect such a big upgrade would wait for the Gen3.

Theeeeere we go. That's where I'm at... I'm not saying that the 3.5L EB is going to be the Raptor motor 'til death do I part, but that I have serious doubts that it'll show up until the G3 Raptor graces us with its presence.
