    Cam phasers in your garage

T55 PLUS if you can. The PLUS is able to transmit more torque. You need all the torque you can get with these bad boys.

    Cam phasers in your garage

It may be a good idea to put the full race radiator in the bed and ask them again when you drop it off! Essentially, all fluids are already drained and all coolant lines disconnected anyway... The only remaining step in changing out the radiator is to literally pull the grille, a few bolts...

    Cam phasers in your garage

No radiator removal, but you do drain the fluids and pull most of the tubes. Even if you did remove the radiator, you then have the transmission cooler still there. It wasn't horrible bending over.

    Cam phasers in your garage

I spent about a week in total working on this. I might be tempted to say that this is a comparable amount of effort to what you did. I tend to spend about a half a day pulling everything off the motor to get to work, and another half day assembling everything again. I'm getting better with...

    Edelbrock Turbo Upgrade

If you look at the pics, the turbos say "Garret" right on them. These are the Powermax turbos. Also, that looks like a stock location intercooler, JMS fuel pump booster, and AMS boost tubes. I'm not sure which tuner that is but it is not an Acessport.

    Cam phasers in your garage

I did leave the tires on, but I admit to pulling off the wheel well liners up front for easier access to the boost tubes. I have a topside creeper for doing work over the engine that I find helpful. That is best to get at those intake manifold bolts in my opinion. I'm not sure I would want...

    Cam phasers in your garage

The new phasers are a bit more robust looking than the old ones. None the less, they slide right on to the ends of the camshafts. They are keyed and can only be installed one way. Install the bolts and torque to spec. These are torque to yield and should never be re-used. There are separate...

    Cam phasers in your garage

Everyone seems to be talking about cam phasers these days. You’ve either already had them done, or you may be on a wait list to get into your local dealer. Since there is so much hype on the subject, I thought it might be a good idea to show more of what happens during this service. Maybe you...

    Cam Phaser issue after repair

That does not sound like the phasers to me. With your description, I'd be looking at the turbos. Specifically, I'd double check the wastegate position (Forscan does this as well as a dealer tool) and see if they are within spec.

GEN 2 Cam Phaser replacement in your own garage ...

Oh... Almost forgot. The last step after performing the mechanical portion of this service is to perform the "Misfire monitor neutral profile correction" procedure. I used Forscan to perform this and it worked just fine. The ECU needs to relearn the camshaft positions after the phasers are...

GEN 2 Cam Phaser replacement in your own garage ...

The service manuals not only tell you the procedure steps, but also call out specific tools required. Some of the tools are only needed if you are replacing certain seals. There are a lot of seals to inspect when pulling these covers off. They press in and out. It is possible generic tools...

GEN 2 Cam Phaser replacement in your own garage ...

Not only is this possible, I just finished doing my own. May post a write up and pics if there is interest. As with other engine work on this truck, it is a bit tedious, but I did not find much of the work too taxing. If I were you, I'd start by getting real comfortable with the shop manual...

    Upgrading the TWINS

NOPE. Don't do a damn thing to the fuel system if you aren't planning to run E85. Stock has plenty of headroom for gasoline. E85 requires almost twice the volume of fuel as gasoline for the same air charge.

Passenger Side Vs. Driver Side Catch Can

Here are a couple photos of what I have collected from my catch can over roughly 9,000 miles. I know I dropped one or two tanks while traveling (not included here). I'd say less than half of the fluid (maybe 40%) is oil with the remainder mostly water. By eye, I'd say that is at least a pint...

Passenger Side Vs. Driver Side Catch Can

That "valve washing thing" is bull$hit. Not good enough. If you need a catch can depends entirely on how you drive it. If your truck is a trailer queen and you don't push the pedal too hard, you don't need anything more. I understand that my driving habits are different than most. I enjoy...
