    Cam phasers in your garage

T55 PLUS if you can. The PLUS is able to transmit more torque. You need all the torque you can get with these bad boys.

    Cam phasers in your garage

It may be a good idea to put the full race radiator in the bed and ask them again when you drop it off! Essentially, all fluids are already drained and all coolant lines disconnected anyway... The only remaining step in changing out the radiator is to literally pull the grille, a few bolts...

    Cam phasers in your garage

No radiator removal, but you do drain the fluids and pull most of the tubes. Even if you did remove the radiator, you then have the transmission cooler still there. It wasn't horrible bending over.

    Cam phasers in your garage

I spent about a week in total working on this. I might be tempted to say that this is a comparable amount of effort to what you did. I tend to spend about a half a day pulling everything off the motor to get to work, and another half day assembling everything again. I'm getting better with...

    Edelbrock Turbo Upgrade

If you look at the pics, the turbos say "Garret" right on them. These are the Powermax turbos. Also, that looks like a stock location intercooler, JMS fuel pump booster, and AMS boost tubes. I'm not sure which tuner that is but it is not an Acessport.

    Cam phasers in your garage

I did leave the tires on, but I admit to pulling off the wheel well liners up front for easier access to the boost tubes. I have a topside creeper for doing work over the engine that I find helpful. That is best to get at those intake manifold bolts in my opinion. I'm not sure I would want...

    Cam phasers in your garage

The new phasers are a bit more robust looking than the old ones. None the less, they slide right on to the ends of the camshafts. They are keyed and can only be installed one way. Install the bolts and torque to spec. These are torque to yield and should never be re-used. There are separate...

    Cam phasers in your garage

Everyone seems to be talking about cam phasers these days. You’ve either already had them done, or you may be on a wait list to get into your local dealer. Since there is so much hype on the subject, I thought it might be a good idea to show more of what happens during this service. Maybe you...

    Cam Phaser issue after repair

That does not sound like the phasers to me. With your description, I'd be looking at the turbos. Specifically, I'd double check the wastegate position (Forscan does this as well as a dealer tool) and see if they are within spec.

GEN 2 Cam Phaser replacement in your own garage ...

Oh... Almost forgot. The last step after performing the mechanical portion of this service is to perform the "Misfire monitor neutral profile correction" procedure. I used Forscan to perform this and it worked just fine. The ECU needs to relearn the camshaft positions after the phasers are...

GEN 2 Cam Phaser replacement in your own garage ...

The service manuals not only tell you the procedure steps, but also call out specific tools required. Some of the tools are only needed if you are replacing certain seals. There are a lot of seals to inspect when pulling these covers off. They press in and out. It is possible generic tools...

GEN 2 Cam Phaser replacement in your own garage ...

Not only is this possible, I just finished doing my own. May post a write up and pics if there is interest. As with other engine work on this truck, it is a bit tedious, but I did not find much of the work too taxing. If I were you, I'd start by getting real comfortable with the shop manual...

    Upgrading the TWINS

NOPE. Don't do a damn thing to the fuel system if you aren't planning to run E85. Stock has plenty of headroom for gasoline. E85 requires almost twice the volume of fuel as gasoline for the same air charge.

Passenger Side Vs. Driver Side Catch Can

Here are a couple photos of what I have collected from my catch can over roughly 9,000 miles. I know I dropped one or two tanks while traveling (not included here). I'd say less than half of the fluid (maybe 40%) is oil with the remainder mostly water. By eye, I'd say that is at least a pint...

Passenger Side Vs. Driver Side Catch Can

That "valve washing thing" is bull$hit. Not good enough. If you need a catch can depends entirely on how you drive it. If your truck is a trailer queen and you don't push the pedal too hard, you don't need anything more. I understand that my driving habits are different than most. I enjoy...

    Upgrading the TWINS

I may take you up on that! She has never stalled on me even though she sounds close. The other week I noticed my marker lights were dimming (flashing?) with the low idle.

    Upgrading the TWINS

Winfield did adjust the idle tables a bit for me. Trouble is that he in the southwest and I'm up in Michigan. We spent about two weeks at -20F in the middle of winter and that kind of cold does not calibrate well from a distance. It's better. But it's not perfect.

    Upgrading the TWINS

And just to provide power estimates for you thinking of making similar mods... (Since I never verified on a Dyno) Winfield tells me that the 93oct tune should be putting just over 500hp down to the tires. That should be about 600 at the crank. He also mentioned a similarly equipped truck...

    Upgrading the TWINS

Been driving the hell out of it. This is my daily driver. I've put about 9k on the clock since these mods. No actual Dyno pulls though. Sorry guys. She is a beast and I am absolutely in love with it. Not a ton of updates to provide. She has been reliable and scoots whenever I push the...

Help, I am at a loss (Random Stalling)

If your idle is dropping to 500, I'd say you just figured out your problem. That's just too low of an idle. You describe how mine acts when she is "a bit shaky", sounding like it has a tall cam and may stall sitting there. Let it learn idle when the engine is hot and you should be more in...

Folks running a Cobb AccessPort and have it displaying gauges realtime

If you did any fuel system modifications, or are running a blend of ethanol, you may want to display fuel pressures. HPFP actual & desired for the high pressure side and FRP for the low side.

    Upgrading the TWINS

I put close to another 1,000 miles on, this time running the 93 octane tune. I averaged 14.8mpg over this distance which is an improvement from E85, but not what I was hoping for. Most of that was highway mileage. I have been running the truck in 4A for these runs for traction reasons. It is...

Turbo chatter what’s going on with that

This sounds like turbo failure to me as well. A quick check for this can be done with the Forscan tool by to double checking the wastegate position. There is a specified range that the electronically controlled wastegate should be in. As these wear, eventually they fall out of spec. This...

Help, I am at a loss (Random Stalling)

Have you done any engine tuning or reset adaptive learning lately? I've been doing a lot of tuning on my truck lately and one of the side effects of loading a new tune and or resetting ECU learning is that your truck will have to re-learn idle. For me (2017), the truck sometimes idles down...

    Upgrading the TWINS

Took her out in the snow for a bit last night. We got just a few inches of fresh powder and I wanted to see what it was like with the added power in the snow. Still had some E85 left so let's go for a spin! While fun, E85 is WAYYYYY too much for cold roads/tires. Granted it was in fresh...
