They didn't make a Gen 1 R...

The kids are going to love it if they ever get a chance to play with it.

You guys always bring out the best (worst?) in me.

Our son, our oldest of 3, born in 1986, had one of these battery jeeps when he was 2-3 years old when we lived in Brooklyn Heights, NYC. We'd take it in the elevator to the lobby and he'd drive it as I jogged along to the playgrounds some blocks away on the famous Promenade which is a long walkway above the crumbling Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE).

He was like the pied piper. All the kids wanted rides and he was only too happy to give them.

One day we went to the end of the promenade to a playground and there were about 5 kids around his age running around and a group of their dads standing talking.

As soon as my son drove in, one of the dads comes up to me and says "If he hits any of those kids with that, I'll throw it over the railing onto the highway below."

Well, I'm not Irish, but he got my Irish up. I walked right up to his side and whispered in his ear for greater effect the following, and I give it to you verbatim: "Don't make promises you can't keep, but here's one for you. You touch it and you will follow it over the railing to the highway below." He turned shades of pale as he knew I was serious. He grabbed his son and left.

I mean, really, what a moron.

Ah, but I digress. I always regretted having gotten my son that jeep as he basically lived in it and I think it took away from leg strength he otherwise would have built by walking and running around. Few years later I got him a gas powered go kart and he drove that thing around our property (yes, and ran over his younger sister's leg so maybe that guy was omniscient. lol.)

This "Raptor" is for our only grandchild, thus far, who just turned 1. That's what my daughter and son in law asked me to get. $469 compared to about $175 back in the day.
