The Mustang was named after the P51. So it wouldn't surprise me if the Raptor was named after the F22, but I doubt it.
What confuses me is that I assumed the Gen I was based off the Raptor dinosaur due to the Raptor graphics.... they looked like they were clawed...

I am not sure as to the Gen 1, maybe just the Gen 3 took design ques from the F22. Would need to talk with the original design crew of the Gen 1. The F22 first flight was in 1997, so it's possible.

Because it was. A mustang being named after a plane doesn't mean their entire product line was

I think at one time there was actually a mustang named after a reptile. The name escapes me now ....

Is that why the galloping horse is the Mustang logo? I wouldn't be surprised if Ford wants to evoke the imagery of both as they choose.

It's also possible Ford wants to distance Raptor from the dinosaur image because of the TRX. But probably just mix things up a bit. Or perhaps with the plan to role out Raptor versions of Bronco, Ranger, etc, it makes more sense to move away from dino to plan. Because a fighter jet horse makes more sense than a dinosaur horse....I guess.

Which is named after a dinosaur ;-)

It all goes back to the dinosaurs.
