It absolutely sucks right now to be a Canadian if you are in the market for a raptor right now. Until our $ recovers...its a risky proposition IMO
Let me illustrate with base prices from Ford's US/CA sites:
Ford US XL (USD): $26.7k
Ford CA XL (USD): $22k (-$4.7k differential)
Ford US Lariat (USD): $40.4k
Ford CA Lariat (USD): $34.8k (-$5.6k differential)
Ford US Platinum (USD): $53.2k
Ford CA Platinum (USD): $49.8k (-$3.4k differential)
Ford US Raptor (USD): $48.8k
Ford CA Raptor (USD): $51.7k (+$2.9k differential)
Thats right even at one of the worst points for CAD/USD exchange rate its cheaper to buy it from the US. Not that you would because of the fees/taxes etc. Bottom line is if you are buying a Raptor in Canada now you are essentially paying the highest possible price anywhere and at anytime since the GEN 1 was launched. But ya know when its really going to suck? When the conversion rate falls more in line with the traditional average and CAD prices for the Raptor returns to somewhere near $55k...you can estimate this based on past prices and the examples of trucks I used in my post.
I know Raptors have solid resale but by buying now you are paying a $15k premium...as far as I am concerned not gonna happen. Now, don't come at me with 'its my money so I can do whatever I want with it' horsesh*t...we know. My post is only to give context to people who are on the fence.
I think the reason Ford is doing this is not to screw over Canadian customers but are forced to do it so Yanks don't come up here and gobble up our inventory...leaving US dealer near the border unhappy.
Your Thoughts?
