Stock ambient lights are terrible in my opinion, I wish ford would do something similar to Mercedes/BMW’s ambient lighting.
I know it’s a truck but it’s so plain inside.
i had a gen2 and installed starlights in the headliner, I would totally do it again but it took me 20+ hours… so this was my solution…

Kit $100
Fuse taps $10
About 6-7 hours if you don’t know wtf you’re doing (me)
could probably repeat this in >2hrs

Basically you just pull apart the dash, find an area where you would like the lights, they come in thin strips with tabs. You clip back the trim pieces on the tabs and that holds the led strip in place. I wired it to an extra slot in the passenger side fuse box.
I also installed the included led footwell lights, they aren’t bright at all, the factory ones over power it.

You are right the stock ambient lighting sucks. I immediately noticed this since I was coming from an S class.

I was thinking about doing the same thing, so thank you for the post! The brightness seems really high but I assume you can turn it down via the app?

Yeah you can turn it down, it’s pretty blinding at full brightness.

i wanted to do all 4 door panels as well but I couldn’t find a good area that the led strip can be set.
