1st Oil Change.....

Hey Raptor Headz....

Question my new Screw just hit 1000 miles and i called my local Ford Service Tech to ask for a oil change appt. After he responded he said that it was not necessary and a waste of money.... I have read some post on many Raptor and new vehicle owners flushing out debris and metals from the initial break in stage. He said that most forum owners were extra careful to the point of "extreme" with some methods of maintenance. I just want to keep a good running truck. He asked also if i tow a lot or drive hard (which i have yet to do) so he said that the 7500 mile change would be fine....and to save my money. Is this good advice?
I asked then about the initial break in phase of most engines at 1000-2000 miles and that is why I have been taking it easy on towing and off road'n. He chucked and said that son is the old way of thinking....these engines are made to take a beating out of the box. Technology has come a long way so I'll see ya when you hit 7500miles. I reluctantly thanked him and said ok.

Any thoughts? Should I wait until my light tell me to get a change or listen to the Ford Service Tech?

Thanks ya'll

BK

Your going to get about a million different opinions on this.

Here's mine:
No need to change your oil at 1K. "Break In" = old school.
7500 mile oil changes = no thanks.

3,000 miles - oil change
6,000 miles - oil change
9,000 miles - oil change
on and on and on....

If you use full synthetic then you can do every 7500 miles. I did my first 1200 miles and then at every 7500. Oil comes out clean every time. My is 9/2011 build, purchased in 11/15/11 and I just reached 32,500 happy miles!
