Alot of the places we go either have water or dust, so I was hoping this would still give me a pod style filter but restrict a bit of dust intake from below and minimise the risk of water flicked up from underneath.
Obviously I don't want to restrict the airflow and thought this may be an option for me, as the open pod at the bottom is not ideal for our situation.
Ok good point. I'll get you some pics so you can see what the Banks CAI looks like in relation to your intake.

I used this filter sock in the winter months to prevent salt and slush from soaking the filter.
You do feel a very slight reduction in HP. But it's a better option than using a closed or barely open CAI box.

Banks sells a screen like this that fits the filter perfectly. I went for that option to increase service intervals, I'll have to take it off and see if I can feel it in the seat of my pants...

let us know what you came up with.
I just picked up a second Gen 1 with a whipple.. Will need to fab some sort of box to help with dirt..
