So with the popularity of Baja Designs fog light kits we get a lot of questions. The main question we're asked is "What do you recommend for a fog light... S2s, Squadrons, SAE, Sports, Pros, etc..."

Well tonight we decided to do a little side by side to show everybody just how the patterns look.

These photos were taken with a DSLR camera. All settings locked in.

We shot S2 Sports, S2 Pros, Squadron Sports, Squadron Pros and Squadron SAES - the 5 most popular lights you'll find in a Baja Designs kit.

All lights were located in the same position for each photo. The focus of the light was dead center on the alignment banner. You'll notice that the S2 and Squadrons have similar patterns but the SAE DO have a VERY distinct pattern. There is a very noticeable cut-off above and below the center point. This is VERY important for an SAE light. It's WHY the SAE has that stamp of approval.

We feel S2 and Squadron CAN be used on daily-use roads as long as you aim the lights towards the ground. This prevents any glare from going up towards oncoming drivers. Your light MAY appear a little weird in the bracket, because it's aiming down, but that's the best way to ensure you do not blind other drivers. Actually... an even better idea is to go with the Squadron SAE. This light can be aligned properly as the cut-off will prevent light scatter from going up, which is important in a fog light (and a headlight as a matter of fact).

So for our money Baja knocked it out of the park with the SAE lights. They may not be as bright as your Pros BUT the idea is it's got that SAE rating, which means it's legal for use on public roads.

Hopefully these photos help folks decide which light is best for them.

As always if you have any questions or need to pickup any of these lights, shoot me a PM or check out our site. We keep all of these in stock at all times and we're happy to answer any questions or help you design a system for your truck.

The Squadron SAE looks pretty bright and very even lighting. I can see how this shouldn’t through light too high on the highway. They are rated at 2480lumens? How far is effective light throw? Don’t want to hijack someone else’s thread, but how does a pair Squadron SAE’s, Squadron Sports(driving combo), and S1 Spots(to use off-road, or highway little to no traffic)sound for mostly on road use? 3 lights in each side of the bumper.

What we're seeing a lot these days, especially with our SPP Triple Fog Light Kits, is everybody is skipping the smaller S2 and going for the Squadron SAE.

Squadron SAE, Squadorn Driving/Combo and Squadron Spots seem to be the most popular.

The SAE work great for on-road use because of that cut-off and wide throw. I'm not 100% sure how FAR they go, but remember these are SAE so they are not going to light up everything like a headlight... great for fog lights.

I plan to actually do a similar shootout with every baja light they make (not including the light bars obviously). From the S1 up to the LP9. This way everybody can see the patterns.

I'll probably post the raw images so that you can see the entire alignment banner. It's a 16' banner, shown above is a 14' section. I just chop the sides off so you don't see the warehouse wall. But so that folks SEE the patterns outside the banner i'll probably zoom the camera out a bit so you can just see it overall. Top to bottom/etc...

That BD light shootout should be great and answer a lot of questions that charts and specs don’t.
