2010 6.2L with 36k miles

hello!

A few of you may have seen my post from a couple weeks ago. Just bought a super clean 2010 6.2L with 36k miles. One owner. Took very good care of it. I’ve read up quite a bit and seems like these things are pretty solid.

What is your opinion on purchasing a service contract? I can buy one for about $1500. Basically covers everything on car (besides wear and tear) for 5 years/60k miles from time of purchase. Rig has low miles for year but it’s still a 10 year old truck. Worth it? Any 2010 owners out there that had big ticket items in service before 90k miles?

I plan to drive it about 5-6k miles per year. Not a daily driver.

At 36k I wouldn't bother. Service contracts and warranties are usually filled with fine print, preventing you from using the warranty for anything of consequence. Seems to me that a true warranty for a nearly 10 year old vehicle should cost way more than $1500 even at that low of a mileage. Maintenance on this truck is dirt cheap and the driveline is solid.

Save your money and just keep the maintenance up to date. Nice solid truck !

I have a 2010 1/2 with 35,000 it's my daily driver. I probably have the same hours on the truck as someone with 80,000 miles. LOL
I'm glad I purchased the 8 year Gold Premium Warranty when I purchased my truck, it's more repair cost then the warranty cost, so I made well.
I purchased a second warranty 5 year/50,000 with a 0 rolling deductible, this means no deductible at the dealer I purchased the warranty and $50 dollar at any other dealer.

I say if you can get the same deal it's worth it.

I have a 2014 with 30k on it. I put a Ford warranty on it through 90k miles. I like doing all of the small stuff myself but if something big goes I am covered. I plan on driving mine til she drops, and if she does before 90k its covered. Even ball joints and tie rod ends are covered. Those I know I am going to be replacing.

I sold my 2010 with 105k+ miles and it drove as good as the day i bought it. I drove it like i stole it. I miss it.

I bought a Gen1 2010 with 2k on it in Jan 2011 and bought the service contract. It covered all oil changes, filters, wipers, trans fluid service, and coolant service at designated ford service intervals. It paid for itself. It was supposed to cover shocks but ford weaseled on those. I put 160K on that truck in 6 years with no Issues. Rear shocks went out at 98K, so I replaced them all. Best price I found was at Rockauto.com 488 ea. also replaced brakes at that point with powerstop performance T26 I think. They worked way better than stock brakes, so much so I'm probably going to put them on my gen2 that only has 20K on it.

I browsed the forums and shock life on Gen1 varied greatly. Some people had failures at 12K. The recommended Fox service interval is 50k. I drove mine until they went away, which is immediately recognizable due to degradation in handling.

It was a great truck and I sold it for 5k less than I paid for it. (I happened across a deal I couldn't refuse - 36K for a 5mo old truck with 2k on it)

That truck looks super nice. Most of the trouble I'v seen on 2010 SCABs is related to braking the rear axle shafts and hitting huge boulders dead center at speed. If you never buy any extended warranties on anything, you will always have enough money to fix what ever is broken. Good purchase KD enjoy it.

I also have a 2010 and purchased an extended vehicle protection plan from USAA. I have had to replace the AC Condenser Lines and Oil Pan (My dunba$$ over torqued the original). The extended coverage offered 3 years or 36,000 miles on top of what i already had on it at purchase (50,000 on purchase date). The coverage helped pay 1/4 of the bill (Basically covered labor) and cost me $1,500.

It does cover suspension though (It paid 80% of my replacement suspension on the rebuild). I plan on using it one more time when i purchase new suspension at 90,000 miles (currently at 75,000). That should have it where it pays for itself.
