2017 truck and I’m noticing a loud metal rattling noise while driving. It sounds like it’s coming from the front. It only happens under boost and seems to only be over 40-50 mph. Typically hear it on the highway.

Thoughts? Turbo issue?

My 18 just started doing the same thing this week. It is apparently cause by the IWE system. The Integrated Wheel End (IWE) system is what locks and unlocks the front hubs when you change back and forth from 2WD and 4WD. Try putting it in 4WD. It should stop the rattle until you get it serviced.

Wow thanks for the response. I will try this out. Is there any issues with driving until serviced?

Not sure. I have driven it only minimally in 4A and no issues. I have it scheduled for repair.

Yea it holds boost and I can hit WOT. I just notice it over a certain speed and it seems to be only while throttle is applied.

This definitely sounds like the IWE system. I had the same thing on my 2017 a couple months ago. You can easily replace the failed part, number FL3Z3A788B. I bought a couple on Ebay for around $8 each, and it takes no longer than a minute to replace the vacuum line under the hood. As soon as I replaced the tube, the noise was gone. Not worth waiting at the service department for this item alone.

So I brought the truck to Bell Ford in Colonia, NJ for the IWE. (A design flaw that Ford apparently has NEVER and will NEVER address!) Dropped on a Sunday night for a Monday morning appointment. Waited til Monday afternoon to get a call confirming IWE issue. THAT I TOLD THEM ABOUT when I made the appointment. No parts on hand! They said I had to wait until Thursday. Thursday came and went. No call. So I called them. Truck just got there with part. Won't be ready til Friday. If that wasn't bad enough, I got the truck back and it didn't seem "right". It felt like it was in 4A even though the light was never on. I finally hauled it out to the dealer I bought it at in PA. They confirmed that the truck was stuck in 4WD. Found a vacuum hose disconnected. They reconnected it. So I'm thinking that the first mechanic just disconnected the line rather than replace or fix anything. Fairly certain I'm right because after driving about 20 miles from the second dealer guess what was back? The IWE grind!!!! First mechanic should be fired! Shame on the second mechanic for not performing a vacuum test after reconnecting the line too. Can't imagine alleged new parts failed after 20 miles. We spend all this money on these trucks and still get treated like s**t by Ford and their dealers!
