It sounds like my new 2019 100% stock motor is pinging'ing under load. 4000+RPM at WOT at speed, pulling up a hill or passing on the highway. It's hard to hear, but there is definitely a repeatable noise coming from the motor. Heard it again this morning on the way to work, pulling onto the freeway at WOT.

I've been running Arco 91 or Chevron 94 since new. On my 4th tank now. I think I better take it into the dealer next week.

Anyone else heard of a stock Gen 2 motor with a ping/detonation/spark knock?

Yes ive seen a view of the turbo which has a small butterfly valve on it, may just be that which mimics a spark knock. Its odd for sure but theres no power pulled or spark nock detection when Ive run diagnostics. Search youtube i think that's where I saw it.

I think it's the linkage for the waste gates. It fits kinda loose on the arm.
The waste gate will pulse rapidly when boosting and makes a chatter noise kinda similar to a knock or ping.
Look down by the turbo and you'll see the linkage I'm talking about.
If you grab it with your fingers it will rattle from any movement.
During steady acceleration the acuation is linear.
However when boost levels get higher it mitagates the pressure by rapidily cycling.
The 3.5 in all other Ford engines has a slighty different linkage setup and is tighter.
The Raptors is a little more loose to deal with more heat expansion.

I have the same problem/sound, exactly as described.

However, mine is def not a ping/detonation/spark knock because it sometimes persists for a few seconds after letting off the gas. But it does sound exactly like that.

Took it to the dealer because I wanted to get it checked out before adding mods. As expected, they were useless.

Its kinda embarrassing if you have someone else in the truck and it sounds like a 1978 Bronco running on discount 87 octane at WOT.

Mine and at least two of my friends' Gen2s (all stock engines) have always made what sounds like ping at WOT near redline, though, and this may be placebo, after recently relocating my license plate, I don't notice it.

However, our symptoms do not persist after letting off. Only at WOT near redline.

Get an OBDII adaptor and do a data log, spark or knock retard will tell all.

Ive had that and done a log and spark knock retard never shows up so its something in linkage or this strange valve thing buried in the turbo

Is the sound on the passenger side or drivers side? Also does it sound like a possible exhaust manifold leak? Reason I ask is because mine has this sound, I originally thought it was an exhaust manifold leak from when we built my motor. After going through everything again it turned out to be the waste gate on the passenger side. Even with an custom turbo setup, something about the location and angle it echoes around and into the cab. Nothing more than just annoying. I have learned to ignore it.
