COBB tuning Raptor tune

UPS dropped off my box today. It was ordered through Cobb on Monday night if I recall correctly. Everything was very well packaged. Installed and already tuned. Needless to say, I’m impressed. Truck drives great.
I had no tune on it prior to this. Truck is smooth, and really wakes up when you roll into the gas pedal. I am currently running the 91oct tune as I live in Arizona.

I will say, I cannot wait for you guys to get TCN tuning out the door. I need someone to adjust my Sport mode shifts as the stock Ford tune feels like a 10yr old did it.

Can’t wait to get it pro-tuned.

Well there is (or will be) a valet mode “map” selection on the AP to allow a sketchy parking attendant to operate the vehicle within restricted parameters.

Correct and there is. I get that. What I heard and questioned from Kyle @COBB Tuning that it as a “toggle” now that didn’t require a new flash at activate valet mode. Perhaps it shows both ways and I haven t looked. I flashed and left the AP at home, didn’t install AP in truck.

Does the raptor tune act like the focus RS tune where it takes a day or 2 to adjust the octane to -1.0 if u have good 93 gas ??

Valet mode is in tune adjustments on the AP for raptor (along with auto start stop disable and dynamic pedal control). It's an on the fly feature that doesn't require a change map. There will not be a typical valet map released for raptor since it has this new style functionality.

Raptor uses a new system called knock octane modifier. This is similar to OAR except 1 is best and -1 is worst. The value defaults to 1 after a flash so it won't need to learn up if you have good gas in the tank already.

Not quite. I put KOM on my gauge screen the other night after switching maps, and it took about a 45 min drive for it to adjust slowly up to 1. Moreover, the Cobb notes specify that KOM is limited to zero while engine coolant is under 130° F. KOM starts at 0 on start and after a map switch, at least in my experience.

I like to have one with wastegate only boost for economy, one with relatively normal power, one with a 93 octane balance, and one with full-on, **** or E30-40 max power. With this type of selection capability it can go from mild to wild, depending on what fuel you're running or the situation.

The tune switching is controlled by the on/off and +/- cruise control buttons on the steering wheel and the selection 1-5 is read on the tachometer as 1000 rpm thru 5000 rpms. Quite clever of them. This tune swap takes merely a few seconds as you poke the button and read the result.

A full map switch like to valet mode, or back to stock requires a full stop, engine off period of about 5 minutes.

Sorry, but you’re wrong. I wasn’t guessing. I’ve had the kit installed since Tuesday. I had literally just flashed before I wrote my description that you’re correcting. It doesn’t work like you’re describing, at least not yet.

Switching between the 87, 91 or 93 OTS maps or any other maps on the AP *does* require a flash and about 90 seconds with the engine off, that’s including the flash time and the 15-20 seconds of ignition off time after the flashing is complete. Speaking from experience of actually using the kit.

I’ve driven other Cobb tuned cars that have on the fly maps. Raptors don’t have it yet.

Moreover, Valet mode *is* an on the fly toggle while the AP is plugged in and doesn’t require a flash. Just like pedal response, and auto start stop, those can be adjusted without flashing.

Also, flashing does not require an engine off period of about 5 minutes. As I originally described, flashing between existing tunes on the AP *after* you’ve already backed up and installed a Cobb tune once takes about 90 seconds. Once again, had just done it before I posted.

I’ll update on hose routing Monday when I get my COBB CAI installed. The Roush one I have currently installed didn’t have fitment issues with the UPR catch can.

Let me rephrase, KOM defaults to 1 after a flash for 91 and 93 octane maps. Stage0 and 87 octane default to 0. What you are seeing is likely the difference between final KOM vs stored KOM which is limited as you said until ECT gets to 135* (starts blending at 130*). So if you flash with a cold engine KOM will be 1, but you won't see this until the engine has warmed up.


As to change map time, these are the benchmarks from testing:
AP install w/factory backup: 12m 55s
AP install wo/factory backup: 2m 55s
Change Map: 35s
Uninstall: 3m

This describes the time for flashing, there is of course a 15 second period that you need to wait after turning the key off after the flash.
