I am leaning towards retrax based on your good recommendations. Approx how much bed space is lost when open? The Raptor has a short bed to begin with...

I've never felt like I needed that extra space I lost with the retrax. Obviously not an issue with small items. If you're moving lumber, it'll fit underneath just fine. For big items like furniture or something, you can gain some space back with a bed extender. Really, I think you'd notice it the most if you plan on placing equipment and gear permanently in the bed.

Great point. I will not be doing that, so retrax seems to be a winner.

I have had both retracting (Pace Edwards Jack Rabbit) and folding covers (BakFlip and Lomax).

I personally prefer the folding covers for only one reason. I haul a dirt bike in the bed every once in a while when I don't want to pull the trailer out. In this scenario the retracting bed cover just didn't work for two reasons...it didn't allow the bike to fit with the tailgate closed (which I prefer) and I didn't like to strap the dirt bike up front and put pressure on the retracted bed cover.

As far as the folding covers, I preferred the Lomax because it more easily removed. I liked removing it and sitting it in the garage over folding it up against the back of the cab.

But as said before it all depends on how you will use the bed of the truck and other personal preferences.

First time Raptor owner here, so, as usual, I want to pick your brains so I make a smart decision. I am not ordering a tonneau cover with my Gen 3 build because I will be damned if a dumb cover holds up my build. Also, I have to imagine there are better options than the three or so Ford has on the B&P.

What is the best cover for a Raptor on the aftermarket? I want something that looks good, is secure, and is practical (doesn't take up too much bed real estate when it is open).

Thanks in advance.
If you want to match the bad assness of the Raptor - Diamondback is the answer

I'm considering trying out the Revolver X4s so the rear window isn't blocked if I need the whole bed. It's a roll up but it's made of aluminum slats.

The downside is that the seal near the tailgate is different from the Bakflip so more water tends to get into the bed.

I've seen those on a few trucks, I like the extra intermediate supports vs my soft cover.

I have had the BaKFlip and Retrax on my last several trucks. I just took off my BakFlip and put on a Diamondback Smooth. I wanted the security and better weather protection. Does creat a few more challenges if you want the entire bed for something, but has all kinds of accessories for mounting on top of the cover. I don't normally need the extra cargo space, but what I do carry routinely is better protected. Plus I think it added to the appearance of the truck in powder coated black.

What is wrong with the Factory option?
I think if the factory provides such an option, why not take it and rather spend the time on searching some actually good looking 37s :D
