If you are just getting started don't get too focused on gear. Learn the technical basics and go from there. Someone with technical knowledge and a ****** camera will out perform someone with the latest and greatest camera and no technical knowledge every day.

Consider something like a used Cannon or Nikon DSLR and a zoom lens. That and some basic knowledge about composition and shutter/aperture will set you up for success.
