This past summer I wanted to get a cool whip like Whtrapta had at the TRR. I started looking online and at our vendors. Alternative Offroad had a couple of choices. Through PM, RW (Nicole) and I worked with James and found that the 6' SafeGlow whip was exactly what we wanted. We asked if it could be made with the red, white and blue LEDs. James said, "no problem".

6' SafeGlo Whip

Next we wanted to mount it to the truck, but didn’t want to drill any holes, so I inquired about using the Sticky Whip suction cup mount. The SafeGlow whip is much larger in diameter than what the Sticky Whip mount is designed for. So working out the details with James, he was able to have a custom Stickywhip mount made for the SafeGlow whip, which is about 3/4” in diameter. I wired the whip to a 4 pin trailer connector, power and ground. So now I am able to place the whip anywhere within 10 feet of the trailer plug in.

This past weekend I got to really test the SafeGlow whip and the Sticky whip mount at the Little Sahara dunes run. I needed to mount a 10’ flag so I asked James to ship me out a standard Sticky Whip mount. He had it to me in 2 days. Once at the campground and before heading to the dunes, I cleaned off the spot on the bed of my truck. I made sure the suction cups were clean and lint free, then securely pushed the suction cups on. Both mounts held up to the pounding in the sand. They took everything the Stage 4 could throw at it, nailing the Whoops, cruising across razor backs and around the bowls, drag racing and jumping the back buster dune. Not to mention, it held up on the highway when I went to get gas. I was doing about 60 mph on the highway, watching the whip in my mirror the whole way. No issues at all. When I finally removed the suction cups at the end of the weekend, I really had to pull them off to release the suction. I’m really impressed with the staying power of the Stickwhip mount. I did not see any damage to the paint on the truck.

I also ordered a small light weight American Flag to fly on the end of the SafeGlow Whip. I've received a lot of comments on the whip and AM. flag when crusin' the camp grounds. It's kinda fun.

I don't get out much to the OHV areas around here that require flags, but if I did...that would be the way I'd do it! Great write up, and obviously another great product provided by James and Alternative.

has anyone tried the FIBER OPTICS style instead of the LED mentioned?
im curious to know if the fiber optics would be comparable to the led brightness??

Thanks Paul! Travis, no they are not even close in terms of brightness; the LED's dominate in the brightness field. The fibers look cool though, kind of like light sabers, but aren't very bright. Reason being, is that the LED whips have about 200 LED's total, where as the Fibers have a few LED's at the very base of the whip shining up into the fiber optic material, creating the light

Yea, the LEDs are very bright. I like that when I open the truck door at night, the whip comes on and lights up everything!

Yeah, that lighted whip was sweet during the night dune run. Always knew which truck was yours. That and the fact that you actually had aftermarket lights on the front lighting the way for the rest of us haha

Gotcha, totally understandable. Kinda figured that much just looking at the pics. I don't trust pics though from a sales point.
