I know nothing so please forgive me for the dumb question but it seems the shocks are too far forward to be effective?

You referring to those out back? If so, that's standard mounting locations on all raptors and offers optimal up travel

No that's just for the front.
The kit includes: UCA's LCA's tie rods cv axles and spindles

For the rear the low profile Bed shock mount is only $1,499 and I'm not sure on the price of the 3.5" shocks

Oh and you'll need the longer leaf springs and shackles as well for the rear
