You can lock out gears to run at higher RPMs even though your speed isn't varying. That ten speed gives you a lot of options.

Please tell me how to lock out gears like I use to in my gen 2. I know I can drive in manual mode, is that what you're talking about?

I've heard that the paddle shifters still work the way they do on gen2. Manual would be another way to go and wouldn't be the biggest PITA if you waited until you were cruising to engage it.
