GEN 1 Steering Rack Replacment - Notes and Info

Update: I found a refurbished rack from Advantage Steering, who assured me it was p/n CL3Z3504A. Taking it to the shop later this month then sending back the core to activate the warranty and get a little rebate. Wasn’t cheap but I hope it’ll keep her running straight and smooth.

GEN 1 Steering Rack Replacment - Notes and Info

This might be my only option. I've had two shops in two states look for the scab rack, even calling up to what they said were the "high up guys" at Ford. Nothing. No parts available. The second shop even sent me back a check for $971 which was the parts cost. So now I'm asking around here and...

Yeah looking that way. Maybe its an inevitable point in the life-cycle of a vehicle like this, OEM stuff becomes harder or cost-prohibitive to install, and hop-up parts are more 1) tried-n-true and 2) available

GEN 1 Forged Offroad - out of Business?

Sweet. Did their shock swap program in Jan 2022. Replacements already leaking. "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is".

I might be new here - but is $2238 per LCA (each side, so $4476 / pair) for the cast aluminum OEM's more than what a reasonable Gen 1 SCAB owner should pay?

Yes that helps, thanks. I am just gonna bite the bullet and replace the aluminum parts. Have a road trip coming up in a few weeks, SEA-ABQ and want to hit some washboards around Four Corners, so the current looseness and rattling up front would be intolerable not to mention likely unsafe! I...

Would love to know more about your audio setup, I also opted-out of the bigger display but seem to be limited in options due to the odd form factor. Do you have a thread on this forum showing what you built? I had the whole dash apart to fix the climate control mix door, its fairly easy to tear...

Right now I'm interested in front-end wear items, and if there really aren't feasible alternatives to the full replacement of UCA's and LCA's. Guessing that Ford would rather sell full pressed-in assemblies and de-emphasize shops pressing in new bushings. I'm planning to take it to the local...

Fair call! I will draw a red card for participating on another'z forum for a little while longer. Not much utility there however.

Hi all you helpful folks. Been lurking here a while looking for maintenance tips and general interest. Lot of very cool vehicles on this forum. Here's my 2012 Scab, she has around 114,000 on the odo, I'm the original owner. Paid the unimaginable cost of $46.5 out the door. Couple photos from...
