GEN 2 Is the Gen 2 "stable" considering upgrade.

Agreed with @Aaron.

You can buy the best most reliable product in the world and still have issues. The real problem is dealing with warranty and the dealer.

When I first got my truck I had an extremely irritating ticking sound coming from the door panels. Went to the dealer 5 times, and 2 times it was left there for a week each. Each time they stated they could not find the issue even after telling them what the issue was (minor issue documented on F150 forums). The 5th time I printed out step-by-step procedure how to fix the problem, and the service advisor confirmed it was completed. 2 miles home, it was not fixed. I pulled apart the door panel myself and they did not do anything. Decided to fix myself on the spot...

Had it not been for the knowledge of forums, I would have never fixed it whether via myself or dealer/warranty. Never been to a dealer since other than the HVAC blend door motor replacement.

The take away is Gen 1 or Gen 2 they will all have their problems. Depends on how good your dealer is to actually take care of those problems. Fingers crossed you are part of the chosen ones that never have issue though...

No offense taken.. But What's wrong with the Facebook Gen2 group? They are all Gen2 owners like everyone here. Majority (116) of the Gen2 owners there have zero problems.

I believe there was a similar survey here about the trans oil leaks a few month ago with similar results.

Thanks for the input guys, I know a fair amount of you are very happy with how everything turned out but I don't have great luck and my dealer doesn't want my business they expect it so as you could imagine I'd rather not have to go through that ordeal unless necessary. They kept my current one 2 seperate times for 3 months each and didn't even touch it when I told them there was a transmission issue under warranty. Oh yeah and it's my daily, my only daily lol.


I am not trying to feed the haters either I love the 2.

I'm really just noting a somewhat consistent fact between auto makers is that the first year of any new style usually has some level of bugs.

It'd be the difference in getting one in a week or getting an 18 when they roll around!

That's why I ordered my 18, instead of buying a 17 off the lot.

Any '17 made after the first few months will have the same issues and build reliability of a '18. They did not change anything meaningful or the way they are produced. I know that goes against what sounds like logic but it doesnt work that way. Sorry

But, if you want to get a '18 becuase of value or the slight changes they made then that makes sense to go that route. At this point, I would probably try to get an '18, but not because it will be any more reliable than a later build '17.

~8k miles so far. Been very happy with the truck. There are a handful of guys that have had more serious issues, but majority of them have been resolved. A couple guys not so much, lemon etc but is semi expected to see these, especially in a new platform. There are also a larger number of semi ocd members here who complain about everything, so keep that in mind.

Sure i've had some of the common cases of a stumbling idle, and a rare trans hard shift, but these are bugs that will likely be worked out. The truck blows away my gen1 which i loved dearly, so i'm open to some things to work through. Have already had it out west for a week of hard abuse, and extremely satisfied with my purchase.

if i had the choice of an 18 over 17, of course id take the newer option solely for value. The option of leadfoot and some minor updates also make it a plus. But if you found a 17 that you could take home now and not wait til february... I wouldn't hesitate to jump on it.
