1. You should not have to touched the accelerator pedal when starting your vehicle.
----> I can see in the video that you pump the pedal . . . do not do that.
2. Did this problem occur before the new air filter?
3. Have you had the fuel pressure checked prior to startup? and after it's running? It may not be 'Holding Pressure'
4. When you turn the key to ON - Not to Start - Do you hear a slight buzz & then it stops? That would be your fuel pump bringing up the pressure.
5. It is possible that you have a bad batch of gasoline. Heat of Vaporization
6. If you have "no codes" Then, look for an intermittent with the fuel pump.

As far as oil . . 5w-20 is not recommended outside the USA by FORD.
That is purely a CAFE standard imposed by the Government on USA car manufacturers.
The CAFE standard is based on a "New Engine - 90 Hour Fuel Economy Test" that is required & mandatory subject to Government fines!
The oil you are using is OK.

thanks hosseface! do you think this issue would place an error code or warning lamp? Or is there maybe some kind of tolerance before the "brain" notice an error….
Welcome,

Your correct, if it were something in the intake, it would throw a code.
I also thought you meant 5*F.
Try the f-150 sites if you don't get the answers here. Being that you have a 5.4l, they may be better able to help. Maybe try FullSizeFord.com | An online community resource dedicated to the preservation & enjoyment of Ford Full Size vehicles..
I would search myself but, I am at work now.
Good luck.

Hi Stepside,

1. I´m not pumping gas when I turn the key the first time. The video was on my phone and I had to crop it to send it around. So the first start isn´t shown on the video. I have to place my foot on the pedal with the second, third, fourth try. Otherwise he will not start at all and I could do this for ages.

2. I didn´t change the air filter yet. Could this causes this issue?

3. We checked all pressures within the starting process and when he was running with operation temperature - all fine

4. yes, you can hear the fuel pump bringing pressure before you turn the key to crank…

5. no, I use different gas stations all the time. I also had 98 octane and 100 octane fuel once in a while. In Germany you have to catch the gas station with the lowest price ;-) so its not the same every time.

6. Ok, we will check the fuel pump again. Thanks a lot!

Regarding oil….if Ford US & Canada recommend this type of oil for the raptor then I´ll use it. As I wrote earlier in Germany all cars running with 5W40 and higher. Its basically a synthetic long life type of oil but way thicker then 5W20. You can by 5W20 in Germany without shipping it from the US. So its based on European standards as well. But not often used. Is there a better oil for the raptor that you would recommend?

Thanks a lot for your detailed information!!!

I bought the raptor in 2012…with 15.000 miles. All fine.
The starting problems began in July 2013. But just once a week or lessand not so bad as it is now (nearly every morning 4-6 tries to bring him to life). I have now 37.000 miles…did all the maintenance etc. no crash nothing...

If the air filter became iced, it could restrict air enough to cause a hard start.
A Ford Tech commented on the throttle body so, certainly look into that.
As far as the fuel is concerned . . . if you fueled up right after a batch was delivered
then, it is possible that it could be the fuel . . but not likely.

Check & Replace your Fuel Filter - that could also become restricted & may be the only problem.

Has this always happened? Or did this just start happening.. I wonder if the higher octsne fuel is too rich to start and its flooding maybe the air to fuel ratio is off and causing it to not start like that but then again you said it runs fine after it idles a whileso nevermind lol I wrote all that for nothing

Ok, then I´ll check the air and fuel filter also. thanks!

what I recognized that when the fuel tank is filled to the max the start problems where really bad and every day. When the the fuel fill came to 75% and less the start problems where not that bad and happened not every morning. It starts to become worse again when the fuel fill becomes less then 15%….make sense? :-D

guys….I´m only putting 95octane in it constantly :-D I had 98 octane and 100 octane once…I also had E85 once…very bad.

But honestly, what else do you want to throw in your engine but a 100 octane to somehow clean it?! :-D
