I'm not a Gen1 champion by any means. I know there are a ton of improvements made to the Gen 2. I think we'll all see what reality is once we get a couple of Raptor events under our belts with both generations participating.

I fully expect redneck throw downs to occur at these events where both generations are participating. I want to be highly entertained by drunken brawling (which might somewhat make all forum back and forth worth it). Or if there are no throw downs then I expect the keyboard cowboys to buy each other Starbucks and shut the **** up.

I look forward to more redneck throwdowns. The first tug of war will be a mixture of stupidity and interesting.

so the big take away here is all the 1st gen guys just need a super charger and everything is basically a wash after that?

It's confirmed that the gen 1 is not making full boost, also this race was more about traction and there are just too many variables to make any sort of conclusion here.

You have to be kidding, right?

first and foremost, drag racing in the sand without paddles is quite possible the dumbest measuring stick - it literally boils down to whoever has better throttle control and traction - power is almost irrelevant because spinning with 450hp is no more effective than spinning with 411hp

second, since when does a 7k blower cost 43k to install?

third, please feel free to link all the gen 1 breakdowns you are referring to, I'll wait.

Lastly,

Gen 1 = 50-60k
Gen 2 = 60-70k

300lbs lighter is roughly equal to a 30hp advantage (widely accepted equation 100lbs ~= 10hp)

performance wise
a 450hp Gen 2 is roughly equal to a 480hp Gen1

suspension wise
aftermarket 3.0s are better than factory 3.0s - not even debatable

ergo

a gen 1 with headers, exhaust and a tune (475hp) and 3.0 shocks is within the driver skill difference of a gen 2. given that a Gen 1 will have ~490tq with h/e/t, it is at a slight(~20) tq disadvantage.

last time I checked, it isn't 10 grand for headers, exhaust, tune and 3.0s for a Gen 1.

I'm a big fan of the Gen 2 Raptor but it's a truck just like the Gen 1. You don't have a Ford GT engine, you don't have a 2jz, or an rb26dett. vin diesel isn't your co-pilot. there is literally nothing on a gen 2 that can't easily be overcome with ANY other F150, let alone a Raptor. A gen 1 with 50k in modifications would shit all over a stock gen 2.

Great ******* response

IDK man...Alex (who was driving the gen 1) and I must have raced 15 times over two weekends. Results were pretty similar every time. I think traction was an issue but we were both struggling with that.

1)He was running MTs and I was running ATs (gen 2)

2) His truck is 6 sp vs 10 sp

3) His truck probably weighs 700lbs or more heavier...SVCC front bumper, aftermarket rear bumper, Super charger weight, Icon 3.0 suspension, MT tires, Bead locks

I dont think it was the drivers mod, we both drove same way. 700hp vs 450hp but also a heavier truck, with 4 less gears in trans. There will be plenty more trips to the dunes this year.

Im sure someone asked this already and I overlooked it in the thread, but here goes.

Have you guys thought about doing some runs on the blacktop and filming it? Lots of guys would like to see this exact race with these two trucks on pavement. It wouldnt really mean one is better than the other but it would be a great point of reference. The Whipple'd Gen1 would be hard to outdo.

The stock 6.2L Ford F-150 produces an impressive 411 horsepower and 434 lb-ft of torque. ROUSH’s complete kit is calibrated to produce a tire melting 525 horsepower and seat crushing 535 lb-ft of torque. During initial testing (using a 2011 Raptor F-150 Crew Cab) showed a considerable drop in 0-60 mph times from 6.6 seconds on the stock Raptor down to 5.7 seconds with the ROUSH TVS supercharger. 1/4 mile performance times also improved from 15.2 seconds at 92 mph on the stock Raptor to 13.9 seconds at 97 mph.

Hennessey said:
Hennessey takes the Raptor to the drag strip, where it lays down a rather impressive 5.3-second 0-60 and a quarter mile of 14.1 seconds at 96 mph

So 13.9 97mph for a roush Raptor vs 14.1 96mph for a stock 17 raptor.

Why is this a continuous Gen1 vs. Gen2. They are both awesome. Gen2 has made some improvements (why wouldn't they). Gen1 will always have its spot in history as the first Baja Street Legal car. Gen2 is better than Gen1, it's a fact. Gen 3 will be better than Gen2 and Gen1.

Gen1 guys really need to get over this insecurity. We all need to respect each vehicle.

It doesn't strike me as insecurity. The issue is whether comparisons make sense in real-world settings that match the purpose for which Ford built these trucks, and what facts and assumptions are leading to the conclusions. Lot's of bending over and pulling out whatever someone thinks will make the case here (i.e $50k and whatnot). Stands to reason that people will call b.s. on, well, b.s. Both are cool trucks, that's a fact. All the " stock gen 2 is better than modded gen 1" stuff is conjecture. A few Raptor events will clear that up nicely.
