GEN 2 Tailgate Options (Other Than Appliqué)

I’ve been looking at options other than no appliqué versus appliqué. The Roush Raptors come with a vinyl decal, which doesn’t look too bad IMO.. but I think I found another route to go.

I’m thinking about purchasing a new 2017 F-150 Tailgate (no F-150 stamp) w/o the appliqué option. I will then transfer all the stuff off of my 2018 tailgate (has F-150 stamped into it) to the 2017 tailgate & go with this appliqué:





I think it will look nice & clean. Also, the reason for going to a 2017 tailgate isn’t just to eliminate the F-150 stamping, but the actual center spot for the 2017 is different than the 2018-2019 in size, so you are unable to use any of the appliqués like the one I posted & imo, the ‘18 & up look goofy with such a small “bowtie-esq” piece blacked out.

The only other option is buying a 2017 tailgate & the appliqué, which the appliqué is ridiculously priced at over $1200. The appliqué I posted is around $450, so all in, I’d be ~$500 for a tailgate, plus prep & paint, plus the applique... $1200 (the price of just the applique [emoji849]). The Ford emblem is already paint-to-matched (leadfoot grey), so I think it’d look good.

Opinions? I can just bite the bullet & get the appliqué.. just kicking around options.

Also, for comparison, this would be the same appliqué for a 2018... it doesn’t look IMO. Too thin in the middle (aka “bowtie-esq”) & no option for using the Ford oval emblem.

Just my opinion but I think it would look better without the Ford oval in the middle.
I may be in the same boat in the near future. I'm thinking about ordering a 2020 and also looking at a few 2019's out of state. I can no longer get a 800A with the applique like I did on my 2017 800A.

The 17-19 tailgates with appliqués seem to be the same, so is the appliqué actually different for the ‘19? Thanks for posting that though, makes going the appliqué route more tempting.

I think everything is the same except for the color. It changed very slightly in 19.

I did a ‘17 tailgate to get rid of the appliqué and get the step; threw a custom badge on while I was at it:



Avoiding the f-150 stamp on a direct replacement for my ‘18 Leadfoot was a bit of inadvertent excellence in my opinion.



And thanks for the reminder to bump the ad for my original non-step tailgate with appliqué in the flea market!

I may be interested.. how much? Located in Louisiana. Shipping quote to zip code 70123 & it’d be to a business, so palleting it is fine.

Btw, that looks clean. Makes me second guess wanting to go to the applique... worst case, I can swap between tailgates until I choose one & just sell the other. [emoji23]
