So, I finally did my first oil change @ 5000 miles. I used Shell Rotella T6 5w30, Ford filter and a Fumoto valve. FYI, I’ve been changing oil on my vehicles for 30 years plus. I gotta day, the oil change was a demoralizing event, to say the least. Didn’t help that I had a good amount of bourbon last night. I got lucky, and got a late production model with the metal pan. Do yourself a favour, remove the skid plate under the pan. You’ll have to remove it anyways because oil goes everywhere. Also, put a large sheet of cardboard under the truck. Oil filter is a pain in the nuts to access. I went from the top and grabbed a hold of it with a Channel Lock oil filter wrench. Was installed with the correct torque. I thought the oil was going to drain from the front spout. It drained out the back and through an opening in the skid plate. I was quick to move the oil pan. Next oil change should be easier with the Fumoto valve. Feels good to get it done but I feel pretty defeated. Hopefully this helps the next guy.
