It sounds like most people don't know that WD-40 shouldn't be applied on rubber bushings it will eat it up. WD-40 is not only a lubercant but also a cleaner and as a cleaners it has chemicals strong enough to desolve rubber over time. Word to the wise !

Rubber wasn't the issue or in the equation, the aluminum post was fused due to the rusting of the steel ring.
