Man, this thread continues the WIN! Pure internet gold right here. You’re in VA with state controlled liquor stores, so that statement is true in VA, where they’ve been stealing freedom since 1607 and other states who just couldn’t quite let prohibition go. But, I can assure you that there is a rather big and active secondary market for Pappy. It’s a bit over hyped. Sure, it’s good bourbon, it’s even great bourbon, but it’s not more than 3 digits a bottle bourbon. In many ways, PVW is like a ’21 Raptor without a moon roof. Raptor aficionados covet it, amateurs don’t know much about it either way, but they know that those in the know want it, so they want it to and they tell their friends “yo. I’m JONESING for the ’21 Raptor / PVW 15/23.” So those people are like - hey, my bud says he wants the Rap, so I’m getting one. And so on. Pappy is good and slightly different from a lot of other bourbons because of the wheat instead of rye in the mash bill. Yeah, I want it, but I’m not paying stupid money for it. Lots of other great stuff out there. as a VA denizen, you should be camping out for the Abraham Bowman releases at A. Smith Bowman in Frednecksburg. This is probably the most under-appreciated, outstanding bourbon around. It’s probably the one thing I miss about VA. Their ’sweet 16’ Abraham was epic. Every bit the match for PVW. I’ve done side by side tastings with several folks, all whiskey enthusiasts and it’s a very even split for who likes what. Anyway, let’s not derail this fine, entertaining show with bourbon talk, let’s let the cyber chest thumping resume.
