I know at least one of them (diggers compound maybe?) had a strip of asphalt followed by a 90* turn. You just cannot make that in 4wd. Either you had to run 2wd and just not be able to go as fast, or 4wd and take the turn super wide. Sharp turns on asphalt are cake for a rally car with AWD...
