I've spent a lot of time browsing this forum since buying my truck in May of 2020, and I finally have a reason to call upon the collective wisdom of all the great members!

Truck has 13,700 miles, bought it brand new, have had a few other minor issues that all got cleared up. Yesterday, I was leaving a freshly groomed dirt parking lot with fresh rocks laid out on top. Some rocks and mud were stuck to my tires, so naturally I accelerated to get them off of the tires. I've taken my truck off-roading plenty of times and have certainly put it through more abuse than leaving a muddy/rocky parking lot.

About 30 miles later I tried switching to an alternate drive mode, and was not able to do so. When I try to change modes a message pops up on the dash that says "Terrain Management not available". I did some searching before posting and was not able to find much information, other than one of the sensors on the shocks may need to be replaced. I'm able to switch steering modes and I can still place the vehicle in 2wd, 4A, 4H, 4L, and I can still use the rear locker. Everything else seems to be functioning just fine. I crawled around under the truck and checked for any obvious signs of damaged wires/electrical connections and did not see anything. I also double checked the electrical connection to each of the shocks, and followed those wires as far as I could see, still no damage present anywhere.

Have anyone else experienced this issue? If so, what was the resolution?

Agree on the dealership. Also, it’s probably a shock solenoid. Parts were on back order in the summer, hopefully you don’t have to wait long.

My 2019 bought this past June is currently at the dealer for the same issue. I’ll let you know what I hear back. Before taking it in we went over it with a fine tooth comb checking all the ground points, scanning with the Ford IDS software and we could not find anything that would explain why the truck is refusing to go into any terrain modes. It would be nice if they threw a code explaining why.

If the fault is active, there will be a module failing the network test or CMDTCs stored in a module. Did you perform a network test and On Demand Self Test on every module?

Yes we tested on every module. Even programmed every module to the latest from Ford. Nothing came up. I felt very defeated taking it to the dealer.

I had this happen when I had an ABS module fail. Was also getting an airbag fault on the dash.

I had the issue (unable to switch driving modes) after having Eibach springs installed on my 2020 SCREW by the dealer. Took it back in and the techs couldn't figure it out. After phoning in help from Ford, they finally determined it was the shock solenoid in the front passenger side shock. After they replace it, all was good again. I'm not sure how it went bad but I assume the mechanic may have damaged it when taking the shock off to install the springs.

The dealership just called, and the tech spent all day working on it and couldn't find anything wrong. The only new piece of information was that the system worked briefly if you disconnect the battery and reconnect it.

They also said, they didn't want to spend anymore time working on it and to come pick it up. Super helpful.

At this point, I want to try new shock solenoids since that is the only thing to date that has shown the same symptom of no errors but still no terrain management.

Does anyone have the part numbers for those solenoids?
