Ceramic Coating & PPF Cost

I picked up my '19 screw last night after it was finally delivered to the dealership and wanted to protect the front from rock chips as I noticed a number of them on my '13 when I had it. So I contacted what I believe to be a very reputable company in the Chicagoland area for a quote on a full front wrap and ceramic coating. I was quoted $2,800 for xpel ultimate full front ppf and $2,400 for Modesta pro level ceramic coating. These prices do not include any paint correction and I was told that since my rap is new, it would probably require 6-8 hrs of paint correction at $75/hr. Do these prices seem right to those of you who have had this work done? I dont know if it is just Chicago prices, but $6k seems like a lot to me to wrap the front and coat the vehicle. I believe the company is very reputable and has nothing but 5 star reviews. I appreciate any input.

I've seen $30k spent on a brand new 2019 car with correction and protective wrap.

It's certainly your truck, and I support 'do with it what you wish'... but I struggle with "why". IMHO you will never get out of it what you spent on it.. At the end of the day, it's a Ford truck. It's not a NFGT.... Drive it hard and never look back... Good luck....

In SoCal, I was quoted PPF @ $899 for partial hood and front fenders, $1699 for full hood and full front fenders, $5300 full truck. I was also quoted $1500 for paint correction and ceramic coating...

$2400 for Modesta BC-04 Nano-Titanium Glass Coating including 1 Stage Paint Correction is about right. Their BC-08 is going for about $1895. Modesta is by far one of the best Ceramic Coatings. Their BC-04 actually crystallizes.

XPEL is hazy and has a lot of orange peel look to it. Both Suntek and LLumar Platinum Paint Protection Film are very good (Suntek is now owned by LLumar). Best one is Prestige ClearGuard Nano Paint Protection Film, it is also the clearest and glossiest on the market today. Full Front end is about $2495 for sedans and coupes, SUV and Trucks are typically more due to the size of the front end.

Really depends on quality of the install too. Majority of the placed use pre-cut or custom pre-cuts tends to be cheaper than ‘Full Custom’ installs. Difference is, precuts don’t wrap around the edges or corners. Full custom installs all the panels the edges and corners are wrapped around (not just the hood) and you’ll get less seams. Pre-cut patterns are made for all installers including beginners. So to make it easier, the difficult pieces they break it up to multiple pieces and they seam it together. When you pick up your truck it’ll look great because the film is new but if you drive it a few months, those seams will turn to black lines from all the dirt and grime from the roads. Just like anything in life “you get what you pay”.

Also I would definitely go with full front end because partial front end, you will see where the Paint Protection Film ends and it doesn’t look very good. Also when you go remove it years from now, the hood and fenders will be two different shades. The protected areas will look brand new and the unprotected areas will be faded and have swirl marks.

My bet is you went to Chicago Auto Pros.
They’re very good, and do a LOT of cars!
Are they the least expensive? No
Are they the best I’ve ever seen? No

Are they a real brick and mortar company that will stand behind their work, and be there when you need them? Definitely.

My point is that there are lots of “installers” that work out of their garage or cars or a small rented unit and are one man shows, and lots of them aren’t even authorized installers! This means if and when you need warranty work, they may or may not be responsive, and they probably won’t be willing to truly warranty their work.

I’ve had CAP do several cars, from VW GolfR to new GT3, and everything in between. I’ve been satisfied with their work and level of customer service, so I continue to give them my business.

Cheap isn’t good and good isn’t cheap!

As far as what film, I’ve had suntek and XPel on cars. The suntek, while only slightly thinner, did not do anywhere near as good a job at protecting the paint as XPel did. I had several breaches in the film in only 2k miles on my gt4. My turbo s had the garage door scrape the front bumper, and it looked bad, but completely protected the paint. Especially on a truck, I’d gladly give up the “smooth as glass” finish for the protection!!

Almost forgot....Modesta! This stuff is the bomb!! I’ve had crystal serum on a couple cars, and while is good, it’s not even in the same league as Modesta. Both level of gloss and endurance of the protection. I have it on my new Gt3, but more importantly on my daily driven TurboS for almost two years, including all winter...even when covered in salt and scum from the snow, you can see the gloss. A simple spray and wipe with a reload type spray at end of wash keeps it just like the day it was installed. I used to detail cars for a living (late 90s/early 2000s) and am amazed by how well this stuff works!!!!

This guy knows his stuff.

I had a buddy of mine in the industry just PPF the sides of my gen 1 to protect it when offroading (fenders, doors, bedsides. Nothing on the hood roof or tailgate). Typically that would have cost me $3500-$4k. He's an Opti guy, used Opticoat's PPF. He did not use the cutouts because they dont wrap the edges and we wanted a super clean look that would last a long time.

I'm very happy with the Opti PPF, its very glossy and self-heals. Looks good.

Whatever product you choose make sure you get a good installer for it though, I would say the installer is as important or even more important than the product.

Those guys a very good. They quote a “top 10 in the nation” industry rating for their services including, paint correction, tint, PPF, ceramic coatings, etc. Small shop but they’ve done 3 vehicles for me and I’m very happy with results and price. Not cheap but over not charged. IMHO worth it. Check out their website for pricing and if you contact them, tell them the guy with the grey Raptor sent you. [emoji41]

I ceramic coated the truck myself with Cquartz and did some paint correction for like $300 in supplies. Plenty of tutorials on youtube.

I got partial PPF (grill half hood and fenders and ceramic coating all for $2700. The ceramic was $600 of that

I took it off roading in so e heavy mud and the two front bumper end pieces got bubbled and came off. But it saved my paint underneath and my ppf guy said he would redo those for free this time .
