Update:
Five hours of troubleshooting at $160/hour. They are going to replace the alternator and a fuse panel assembly (14A068*B on the invoice; don't know if that's a Ford part number or their internal number).
So, $2200, and they claim not covered under warranty. Ouch.
UPDATE:
I was in a dealership today, and spoke to the service manager. He said mostly likely it's the battery breakout box (fuse box). I'll know sometime next week.
Update: middle of next week before they can even look at it. It would cost $400 to tow it to a closer dealer, who can't get to it until the end of this week. Probably not worth the money to tow it.
If anybody has any idea what it actually is, then I'd give it a try to go and fix it myself. I...
I examined the fuse box. It was dark, but with a flashlight, I could see no obvious hint that a fuse was blown.
In retrospect, I'm kicking myself for not (a) having any tools with me (wrenches and a voltmeter would have been nice), and (b) not knowing what to check. Simple google searches at...
I was driving down a city street at dusk. The system made a funny warning noise, and the dashboard went completely black for a second, then came back. Five seconds later, the entire system shut down and went completely black. We came to a stop in the middle of the lane. Some good samaritans...
Got my truck back today! They claim it's running great. I drove it home and it seemed fine.
This is what they wrote about the repair. I'd appreciate hearing from the knowledgeable people on this forum your thoughts and impressions on what they did and what they are saying:
Went to the dealership and the engine parts were all over a table. Should be "done by the end of next week" they told me last Thursday. Same thing they've said every week for the past six weeks :-)
Sounds very similar to my problems with a 2019, but I never had any misfires. Just using lots of oil (no leaks) and then failing compression tests on two cylinders:
drmdwebb's thread
I asked that specifically. Short blocks are on many-months backorder, so they are buying parts to rebuild it. At the dealership.
Like I said, I have a warm fuzzy feeling about this. NOT.
All I know is this: when they originally took it apart to replace the valve seals (their original intent) they discovered that two of the cylinders "didn't have compression." (Seems funny, as the engine seemed to be running fine with plenty of power). So Ford then told them to "rebuild the...
Another UPDATE:
I went to the dealership today to talk face-to-face. Ford wants them to replace the block, BUT, they don't have any to give them for many months, so they are going to REBUILD the block (new bearings, rings, cylinders (?), etc.)
Doesn't that give you a warm fuzzy? Hopefully it...
UPDATE:
The dealership now tells me they are going to "replace the engine." I'm not sure exactly what that means. They claim it will be done by the end of this week. I can't fathom how they could possibly get the "engine" that fast and put it back together. We'll see.
