Is it supposed to downshift automatically? I notice that sometimes it does and other times it goes to third only and I have to manually go to first. What's the deal?

As far as I've been able to find out, there is a speed limit to that third gear issue. So I don't think it's 100% manual in that sense. The computer must think it knows best with the speed and gearing ratio we have.

Basically if you don't shift past 3rd, the transmission won't downshift for you, you have to do it manually, this is because the transmission can be manually shifted into third at a stop, and it is assuming since you didn't shift past 3rd you want to stay in it, if you shift to fourth or higher, the truck will downshift because it can't stay in 4th or higher at a stop
