Broken Windshield At Tint Shop - Advice?

Reduction of heat & UV, less glare. Prefer shaded areas verse the sun beating down on me.

ask your insurance agent about the glass coverage. it falls under a different section of comp coverage. i am almost certain you probably have a $100 deductable. glass claims are different than someone backing into you in a parking lot and not leaving a note. just tell them that you got a rock chip on the freeway and now it has turned to a crack. usually they will ask if its bigger than the size of a quarter, at which point, they will replace it for you with a $100 out of pocket cost.

You right, every one in awhile I see a car with a blacked out front windshield, but around here it's a ticket just waiting to happen. They will make you strip it off right there.

Blacked out and tinted are totally different chief.

You should have known (you may have) that any chip in a windshield can spider crack at any time.

You also should have known (you may have) that doing tint work to your windshield with a chip in it could easily cause it to spider crack.

You can characterize this problem in any manner of ways but this is one situation where you should man up and accept the responsibility because it was your decision to tint the windshield with a crack in it (why didn't you have it fixed or replaced BEFORE you had it tinted?!).

IMO, there is NO WAY you should be talking to the tint shop about this issue other than to say you're going to pay for a new windshield and you're sorry to have put them in this situation.

As for tinting your windshield I'm all in favor of doing that as long as it's as light a tint as is available because it will reduce UV and heat and in hot locations (like here in SoCal and out in the desert) any UV/heat reduction is a good thing). Most people would never know the windshield is tinted unless they did an A-B comparison of two identical vehicles sitting side-by-side.

This morn in better light I saw a side window tint scratch and my rearview mirrow is bouncing around like crazy because it wasn't properly re-attached. Also I can see where they cleaned the windshield and it's smeared and still dirty, so had they actually installed the tint it would've gone over the smears\dirt. Overall, leads me to believe their installer doesn't know what he's doing or was rushed.

A good product is worthless when your service quality sucks!

Why should I automatically know that placing a thin piece of film on the window is going to stress it?

A "window specialist" took a heat gun to my windshield on a 45 degree F day after I showed them a chip and you want me to apologize? I think not.

I'm still taking responsibility but I'm not saying sorry. I think their workmanship sucks and I think anyone who knows what they're doing would've raised a flag.

I get it I have dealt with customers like you in the past.. Looking to stick someone else with the bill, you ran up... Step it up man and take responsibility for yourself, its your window and you broke it.. Your the kind of person that gets a chip in the windshield or a tiny scratch in your paint and want to blame the world for it so you don't have to pay..... Sometimes its hard to be a man and say "its my fault"... Step it up and stop looking to blame it on the shop owner......
