I can assure you that nothing on a military Humvee is designed by NASA. those things are the biggest lemons. Its a miracle if they aren't broke down!! But they are fun to drive off-road when they aren't broke down
Having owned a few of them myself I can tell you that the engineering team that worked on the Humvee was definitely not from Nasa. It was a common comment on the Hummer forums that when you repaired/upgraded something on the H1 you felt like you were fixing someone else's engineering problem. They are amazing things to drive offered, but you better be good at maintaining/repairing them.
