From 2017 to mid 2019, Ford calls for 5W-30 synthetic blend oil in the Raptor. This is the "recommended" oil. Full synthetic is "optional." They also call for orange coolant. In the updated owners supplement for 2019, Ford changed to recommending full synthetic oil and yellow coolant. Anyone know exactly why the change after almost 3 years? I know there were several service bulletins for heater core problems in different vehicles using orange coolant. The Raptor falls under one of the SB's. The procedure calls for a coolant flush and replacement with yellow coolant. Apparently deposits build up in the heater core and can cause restrictions when using orange coolant. Could this be why? I have no speculations on why the sudden change in oil specs. The consumption issue should be irrelevant.
