Gen 2 Upfitter Switch Tailgate Release Kit

Has anyone had one of these fail?

I've had this kit for 3 years and worked great. Recently my tailgate actuator stopped releasing my tailgate. It would sound like it is firing but tailgate would not release. Dealer replaced the catuator with a new one and within hours the same problem happened.

Curious if this upfitter kit is responsible in some way and if anyone has any tips to troubleshoot.

This is common. it is usually not the actuator or anything electrical related.

the rubber stops on the tailgate can swell and apply too much pressure on the tailgate. Causing the latch to get “stuck” as it can’t overcome that pressure.

Interesting. Af first the actuator was firing but later on the actuator was not even working, indicating it burned out.

I'll check the rubber stops. What's the fix?

Yea. That tight fit pit a lot of stress on things.

some have the rubber stops replaced, or shave them down

Thanks I'll check them. What's the trick to releasing the tailgate ooen from the bed when it's stuck?

Push in on the tailgate to relieve the pressure. Then hit the tailgate button

Ruby, you were correct. It was the tailgate stops. The dealer cut a groove in them at a specific spot (truck was back there to have a new api module installed anyway) and now all is well. Supposedly they adjusted something else as well though SA wasn't very knowledgeable on that.
