My amazon experience has been long and mostly good. They did rook me for a hard drive, was defective when delivered, couldn’t get it to format -at all. Returned, got label, 3 weeks later, I had the money, figured everything was good, dumped the ups label and moved on with life. They didn’t. Literally, the next day they send a “we didn’t get your return” ... send it or pay up. Lesson learned to the tune of $89.50. Next time they pulled that ruse on me, I got CS on the phone, no easy task. <pro tip: don’t try this without a speaker phone> Instead of leading with my ups delivery status, I ask them the status. They indicate they haven’t received it. I ask for the ups tag #, they recite it, the numbers match. “so you’re aware, I’m recording this call, name I’ve long since forgotten”. Looking at the UPS website and using their package tracking facility, I can see that the return was delivered to Amazon’s service center in ( I think it was Harrisburg? PA ) 3 days ago. I have pictures of the package and a receipt from UPS as well.” pregnant pause. “let me check some things”. Me: “you do that”. a few minutes later I got acknowledgment the package was received. Is there anything else I can help you with - “why yes, an email confirming you will not charge me for this.” They agreed, and true to their word I got an amazon email indicating receipt of the package. However, what frosts me about this is the frequency with which it happened on my orders. The 2nd “we didn’t get your return” was consecutive and not long after the hard drive. Now I’m not one to be a conspiracy theorist but that certainly is suspicious and inclines me to suspect they’re not randomly targeting users to do an initial denial of returns. This was a few years back... back when 1TB hard drives were $89.50, whenever that was. I haven’t forgotten. I still buy from them but I don’t buy major things from them for a number of reasons, I’ve definitely gotten some items that did not meet the description. Most of which I’ve chalked up to I should’ve known better. As others have said, it’s like going to an out of town carnival and buying from their flea market hosted by Carnies. If you know what you’re looking for and buy from reputable sellers, that does help a bit. I hate to say it but they’re catering successfully to the “gotta have it now” crowd and they’re doing it better than anyone else. I just tried ordering motor oil from the local Walmart and they advertised next day delivery. at checkout it was 7 days... weird... it’s in stock, but ok, I’m not in a hurry and I order. It arrives only 2 days later. not complaining about early deliveries but if Walmart is trying to cut into Amazon’s presence, they need to clean this up.
