Thankfully it turned out to only be an arcing plug wire, which is crazy considering how loud this ticking noise was. New FoMoCo wire on and engine runs perfect! I plan on doing the rest of the wires and plugs very soon.

I appreciate that info. Looks like I'll be researching a write up or video for that repair. This truck last came from Alabama. I'll keep you all posted on the outcome.

Any update on this? I just bought a 2014 with 170k miles and 1 week ago my truck has developed this same exact tapping noise on the top of the engine, driver's side, by the firewall. My engine also runs like a champ, and throws no codes.
