I'd say it cuts out 40% - 50% of the light output being behind the grill. There's a thread or two on the forum where some guys measured it. I did the hood mounted BD squadron pros and HID upgrade to help offset.

I have this setup and intentionally used the channels to add some strength. Just use a longer bolt to run all the way through the channel.

I've had the F1 on my truck for the past three years and it has held up with no issues on hard off road runs including the El Bandito 500 Baja trip.
