This works on Gen 2s (mine as of yesterday). I’ve not heard of it on 3s.

Why would you want to drop the tail gate from the key pad? I have not tried it, but I can enter my code and walk back and push the open button on the gate.
Only time I ever used it was for curbside pickups during the Covid debacle... and it was NOT for my "safety".

You’ll need to enter the code to lock it if it’s been a set amount of time, well on my truck at least
