Having had the unfortunate displeasure of driving/riding in/servicing the Prius, I can say with confidence that no level of cheapness (IMO) can justify spending any significant amount of time in a vehicle that awful. Not only is the level of ugly is off the charts in both interior and exterior, but the ride quality and noise levels are appalling even for an economy car. it's slower than a Geo Meto running on 2 cylinders, and the center mounted gauges (used because it's cheaper than running a harness to the driver side) are cheap 1980's dot matrix displays. Never mind the fact that it's downright embarrassing to be seen in one.

Fwiw my dad’s 64ish yr old gf is a prius driver. The latest ones aren’t slow at all. The first gen was an awful car they hybridized into a more awful thing. The second gen was a new exclusive design. It was slow but interesting maybe. The newer ones are no worse than any other compact with an automatic and mostly better. Not that they don’t suck but dangerously slow isn’t one of the reasons. Now a fiat 500, I cannot believe that car is street legal. I had an insurance rental for 6 weeks and was terrified every day.

Don't know if the new ones are like this (I had a 2011), but Priuses beep like a forklift when put into reverse but only on the inside. I guess the dealer could have turned it off but I couldn't be bothered to visit Toyota. This "feature" never made any sense. Do hippies forget they're in reverse?

Also, the car was quiet at low speed so driving around parking lots was either maddening or humorous depending on your viewpoint. People would not hear you coming up behind them and would often be completely startled.

I have canceled an Uber before when I saw that it was a Prius that was on the way.

Haven’t had the displeasure of driving a Fiat, but the Prius’ 0-60 MPH in 10.8 seconds is dangerously slow in my book. My Fusion Energi was over 2 full seconds faster than that, an I still found it frustratingly slow.
