Not that I meant to, but I couldn't find a gas station for about 12 miles after I hit the dreaded zero miles to empty on my 18 Raptor today. Pulled in to gas station and that thirsty beast took 36.76 gallon of gas. Guess I was cutting it a little too close.

OP. I tested this several times. In every case on my 2018 SCREW. When I hit 0 miles to empty, I am able to regularly put 34.5 gallons in the tank on fill up. Meaning there is 1.5 gallons still in the tank. So you can figure 20 miles past zero is the max you can go without running out.

In regards to DTE calculation when you fill up. It is always being re-calibrated. The computer looks at your usage from the recent 30-60 minutes of driving. Have not been able to figure out exact timing. But if you have been cruising on the highway at 65mph for the last hour, on fill up, you DTE will be 550ish. IF you have been doing 1/4 pulls and low range off roading, your DTE will be 450ish.

Doing a reset via battery goes way optimistic and can be close to a theoretical DTE of 684 (19mpg x 26 gallons).

My real world tank usage in every day driving is 544 miles to the tank. 16mpg x 14 gallons @ fill up.

Just curious, is it common for alot of you guys to run empty or just doing this for testing? Most of the people I know including myself never run a car/truck until the gas light comes on. Always fill up before that.

As a owner/auto tech, we hate working on cars with the gas light on.
