Woke up this morning thinking I was going to install new red wheel trim rings on my 2018 Raptor. I opened the box and recognized I got SHTOOPED by thinking I could accomplish this for $100. I quickly realized when I saw only one ring in the box that the company didn't make a mistake. It's $400 for the set of four.

I'm not paying $400 so I can have red rings on my rims. That brings me back to my original plan when I thought $100 was unnecessary. Plasti Dip is $25 and I know they sell bright red. I did a search and I see that people have used the product to spray their entire rims before and years later they are still solid. Any reason anyone can think of as to why I couldn't Plasti Dip the rings currently on the truck? I would obviously remove them.

I saw one piece of advice which is to ensure that the entire rim even the insides you can't see need to be coated otherwise it'll peel. I intended on only spraying the exterior of the ring that is visible. Will it adhere better if I coat the entire front and back of rim ring?

Any other advice would be appreciated.

The one ring I did receive does look damn sexy. It is definitely solid so might bite bullet and just buy the damn things.

Why don't you just get the original rings powder coated like many have done. I wouldn’t buy new rings unless I was going to convert them to actual beadlocks.

Plastidip is a great way to try colours on the rings. I did mine in Olive Drab. I coated the front only. Give the ring a wipe with alcohol to clean the ring.

Only drawback to Plastidip is the somewhat tacky surface. I have not tried the Plastidip clearcoat overtop the base.

Thought about that right after I posted but when I called one company they told me $130 which excited me but then came back and said $130 per ring. I even texted the guy a photo of the ring so I know it wasn't some random quote over phone not knowing what it was. Maybe I just called wrong place.

I guess if anyone has powder coated the rings what did you pay?

That looks GREAT to me. I feel confident that I'd be able to apply good layers so not worried about that. Some people can't use a spray paint can so I would see why some would be skeptical to try. The fact that it peels off is more intriguing to me. I read about the glossifier product that sounds like its exactly what would turn tacky into smooth and glossy.

How many coats did you apply? How many cans were needed? how does it hold up not being being fully covered? I keep reading you gotta spray entire ring to ensure it holds up. Don't wanna do that if I don't have to.
