So I've been off this board for a bit as I no longer own my truck. I've read through some of these posts and there is some misinformation being put out. The sound doesn’t always “appear” overnight with a loud start up, or at least it didn’t for me. My first time I had it I actually heard the...
Well I'm out! Enjoy your trucks everyone. My advice to owners with cam phaser issues is to document everything, (dated videos) and hire a lemon law attorney if you have multiple visits without resolution. They don't cost anything upfront and will go after Ford for their fees.
They can do it either way. I've seen multiple Ford techs say it's an easier job when they lift the cab. I think people would be surprised how easily our cabs can be removed.
Nice! Do you mind posting the part # for the replacement parts? I'd be interested to see them. My rattle came back within a few months after the "c" marked Phasers went in.
It's the cam phaser going. I heard this knocking before I ever heard the rattle. It will only get louder if not addressed. It sounds like it was coming from the top side of the motor.
A few people on youtube have posted similiar videos:

That video captures the sound the best of all the ones you posted. That is not the wastegate rattle I'm hearing on that video. I'm glad they are taking care of you. One thing is apparent is that not all cam phaser noises are exactly the same. I see videos with really loud start up noises...
That is a bad cam phaser. I also had the warm idle tick/knock. Mine started like yours but got a whole lot louder before a dealer replaced my phasers. You could hear it from 10 feet away. FYI most people don't seem to have that hot idle noise.
I'm about 2k miles post repair on mine. A few weeks after the repair I swore I heard the faint chatter at start up. I started listening for it and sure enough it has come back.
