Opinions on using your trail control?

I tried mine on a fairly steep uphill trail section yesterday just to see how it would work. It surges like crazy, very poor. If that's normal on a hill I would never use it. It has all the sensitivity and smoothness that I would have if I was drunk off my ass and wearing ski boots with bricks glued to the bottom. Is this normal? I used it once before on the flat, just to try it, and it worked fine. On a hill it's horrible. It just randomly stabs at the throttle and then lets off. I'm trying to find out if everyone else's is like that or not. :pimp:

Tried it for the first time during Raptor Assault and it was very smooth for both hill climbing and rock crawling. Much more smoother than trying to control the speed/brake on my own or even using the left foot brake/right foot gas method that was taught at Raptor Assault.

Thanks, Nice to know. I'll have to try it again and see if it was just a one time thing. It was ridiculously bad, it was the same as me just randomly stabbing at the pedal. If it stays like this I'll have to get it checked. It just didn't seem right that if it worked that ******, that Ford would bother putting it on a truck.

What drive mode were you in?

Full disclosure I haven’t seen a hill since I left San Diego nor did I go to Raptor assault but figured maybe it’s better in a certain mode.

I'll have to experiment a little bit. I was in normal mode, 4 hi.

I don’t even know what it’s supposed to do.

It's basically a low speed cruise control for trailing.

I’ve never tried it in 4wd, but I did try it in the driveway when I first got it. My drive way starts at the back of the house, does a loop of about 300y to get to the front of the house, and another 300y to the road. It’s got one straight section of about 75y, some gentle turns, one sharp turn, and a hill. I set it at 3mph and let it go. Was kind of neat.

I tried it in 4L on a steep hill with lots of loose rock. It surged annoyingly on the way up, so I turned it off. I tried it again on the way down and it surged again, braking and releasing. I felt like the little dog in the rear window with my head bobbing up and down. I turned it off, totally unimpressed. I'm sure I'll try it again at Raptor Assault. It probably works OK when traction is good. If they do some fancy brake work, it might even be really good for crawling. I'll ask. If not, I'm thinking it's a gimmick. A solution in search of a problem. Something else to break. Just put it in manual mode and drive the damn thing.
