For truck use the 5.0 only puts out 360hp and 380ft/lbs. The only downfall to this motor in truck use is that it likes to rev. It's not a down low torque monster like the 6.2 or 3.5 Ecoboost. I still feel its stronger off the line than a 5.4, others don't though, but this baby sings at over 3k rpm and really pulls. It's just a motor that loves to rev, some people might not like that though in a truck. Needless to say, the speed limiter still comes up really quickly in the 5.0. I have one in case you have figured it out.

As of right now, the major changes that have been seen on the truck version of the 5.0 for 2015 is a new higher flowing intake manifold with charged motion control valves and its getting cast iron versions of the Mustangs headers, both of which the 2015 Mustang 5.0 is getting as well.

Remember that 420hp is with premium fuel too.

So why detune the engine ?

Durability while towing loads and to move the torque curve down into a lower RPM range.

The 6.2 in the Super Duty is also detuned for durability.

Hard to say. Both have plenty of potential if you ask me. Ford still hasn't released what motor is going in the the SVT Cobra, GT350, or whatever they're gonna call it, so it could even be that motor. The 5.8L out of the GT500 could even be sticking around, but nobody knows and anybody that does isn't going to say anything.

There was also a video of the 2015 doing some testing and in the off-road part of it you could hear the engine, and it sounded deeper than the current 5.0. Was it deeper sounding because of the new changes to the 5.0 or because it was something else? It sounded a little like the 6.2 to me.

I am a fan of the 5.0, got one in the wife's truck and it scoots along just fine. It also gets good mileage, which tells me it's an efficient engine. Efficiency=good HP.
Yes, it does like to rev, but it sounds good while it's doing it.
