I have a 2013 Raptor Screw with 51,000 miles on it. Fresh off an oil change that I almost always do before the truck reminds me to do anyway. Last Friday, I was cruising downtown Austin dropping a friend off at a hotel when the truck started shaking pretty violently when I tried to accelerate. RPM's were only high enough to keep the truck started but you had to really give it some gas to go. Exhaust sounded weird and there was a slight sulphur smell also. I'm thinking "Ok, I know we got a lot of rain this weekend, maybe I put bad fuel in the tank and it's got water in the fuel." But I drove about 100 miles since using "suspected" gas station with zero issues. Prior to this incident, my truck has run without a hiccup. Never has she skipped a beat. Boom, that fast she shakes, CEL comes on and I'm stranded.
I thought for sure this was going to be an insurance claim with water in the fuel or something. Next day, Ford calls me up and says things look bad, can we do a tear down to see what the problem is? I say sure, whatever. But asked him before he does all that, did you make sure it wasn't a "water in the fuel" issue and he said "yea, it's definitely not water in the fuel but with all the flooding lately, we need to tear into the motor and see if your truck was submerged under water" I said ok, no big deal. Dealer calls me back and says he has bad news. Going to have to replace the whole motor. Cylinder 2 has low compression and the mechanic noticed some scoring and piston slap here and there in cyl 3 and 5 also. Not a water issue of any kind. All covered under my warranty but has anyone else had a similar experience? I not once doubted this motor, never ever. I was stranded in less than two minutes technically. I don't abuse my motors or rag on them, but at the same time, I'm not afraid to get it up and go. My miles are nearly all highway since I travel long distances. Anyhow, thought I'd share and see if anyone else has some insight. What should I make sure the dealer does so they do this right? Should I trust them to get my truck to 100% perfect like before? It's a big dealership. Maxwell Ford in Austin, Texas. I have had poor experiences there before but mainly on the sales side. Their service department has been stellar so far.
