Agreed dude, my guess is getting it up close to 180-200 and using Kentucky windage. I mean how much can 20 degrees effect fluid expansion?
Enough that the fluid level will be completely wrong. If you set the level at 20 degrees below spec it will be overfilled enough to vent from the case breather.

Wow...ok this is what I have always been looking for. A logical explanation. I just wish there was a drain plug so you could accurately put back what you took out. I did these drain refills on my Xterra every 30K miles. Easy...dump into a bin, measure out each quart in a quart sized graduated measuring cup and pour through the dip stick in the top of the engine bay.

Drain plug is $300 and a half day of work.

just make sure you cover it with the skid plate :p It is pretty though.
I've been following this thread ,I like the idea of having a drain plug, that'll be one of my next mods, what method are you using for making sure that you have refilled the transmission to the proper level?
TIA

OEM says start at 5 qts, my pan holds 1.75 more. Start there. I know mine is about 7.25 with a drain and fill so I start at 7.
